PENGARUH EDUKASI PERAWATAN POST PERCUTANEOUS CORONARY INTERVENTION (PCI) TERHADAP TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN PASIEN DI RUANG HCU RUMAH SAKIT MURNI TEGUH MEMORIAL HOSPITAL MEDAN TAHUN 2026

Background: Patients undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) require adequate knowledge regarding post-procedure care to support recovery and prevent complications. Post-PCI care education may be provided repeatedly according to the patient's needs and condition. In addition to the education provided in this study, patients may also receive education from healthcare professionals during hospitalization.Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of post-PCI care education on the knowledge level of patients in the HCU of Murni Teguh Memorial Hospital Medan in 2026.Methods: This quantitative study used a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 77 post-PCI patients selected using consecutive sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test.Results: The mean knowledge score increased from 10.69 before education to 14.12 after education, with a mean difference of 3.43 points. The Wilcoxon test showed Z = -6.283 with p < 0.001, indicating a significant effect on patients' knowledge before and after education. A total of 45 respondents experienced an improvement in their knowledge category, while 32 respondents showed no change in category. The increase in knowledge should be interpreted in the context of educational exposure during hospitalization, including education that may be provided repeatedly by healthcare professionals and the researcher. Conclusion: There was a significant effect of post-PCI care education on patients' knowledge levels. Structured and repeated education according to patients' needs may be used as an effort to improve knowledge regarding post-PCI care. However, the increase in knowledge cannot be completely separated from other educational exposure received by patients during hospitalization.
